Daughters- a poem

A brief interlude into poetry!

Daughters

I want to raise Valkyries

warrior women who lift staffs
to the air, shuttle heroes
home; voices echoing over the Rhine where maidens
sing of cursed rings as Valhalla
goes down
in flames.

Their soft tufts of hair spill forth
Curling and waving
in brown and red springs
dizzy circles on the floor where they drop
giggling
staring up at the night sky
while the wind regales them with tales of
Leia
Simone
Amelia
Eleanor
badass Bitches who bucked
until they rumbled the Earth.

They may choose to wear pink
adorning their heads with
plastic gemstone
     crowns
wrists wrapped in ribbons
stocking feet sliding over hardwood floors

or they may wear cowgirl boots and
spit
collect chicken eggs and sprint after wild dogs
tracking through mud puddles with the
grace of winged dragons

lightning bugs and a cacophony of crickets guide them home while
tall wavy grass
laps at their ankles
their tiny feet slap slapping against the ground

running round the ring of fire
